What is a government? Well government is a system or group of people governing an organized group of people. A family does just that if you think about it, there are families in every society and without families the social hierarchy would fall apart because they are so important.

Families are structured groups just like a government, there are usually parents, guardians, or another form of leaders who are in control of supporting the family in many different ways. For example they are usually in charge of money, food, shelter, activities, and protecting other members of the family. A government also does all of these things for a society just in different ways. Governments and families both have ways for handling disputes wether its an argument between siblings or a robbery. The parents usually act as mediators similar to judges in a courtroom. Parents are also the ones who provide things like healthcare and transportation. They normally make things like doctor appointments and drive there children to wherever they may need to go. Then there is the law, most places where there is a government there is also a law and if you break the law there are consequences. The same way families have rules and there are consequences when you don’t follow the rules. Governments have changed a lot over time new roles, new leaders, etc. The same thing apply’s to a family there are always new children being born or a wedding where someone gets a new last name. So the way I see it all these things show that a family is a structured government just like the rest just maybe a little smaller.

Starting back in the Middle Ages educated people already knew the earth was round and there was no doubt about it. This knowledge has been passed down from ancient Greek philosophers such as Aristotle, Pythagoras, and especially Eratosthenes who went as far as estimating the circumference of the earth.

The myth that the earth was flat was popularized way later in the 19th century by writers like Washington Irving and John William Draper who helped create the false narrative that people in Columbus’s time thought that the earth was flat. Irving wrote a book on the history and voyages of Christopher Columbus, in that book he fabricated a scene where Columbus argues against churchmen who believed the earth was flat. This was overly dramatized in Irving’s version and in reality the debate was how far Asia was sailing West. People like that went around spreading this information so it grew more and more popular over time. Over all the belief that the earth was flat came primarily came from Irving and Draper writing fake stories and spreading false information causing many people to believe in a flat earth

Cars now verse cars 20 to 30 years ago have changed in many ways but what I am going to focus on is the quality and safety. If you were to hit something in a relatively new car from around the last 7 years to now going 15 MPH you can expect to have to replace the whole front clip of the car as well as some internal parts. This is because cars are of course made to crumble, which makes you pay more money in repairs. Now cars 30 years ago had less safety features like air bags and seat belt restraints. Another safety measure that is in new cars is crash test to see how well they hold up, although these aren’t always accurate and sometimes still get sold even if falling the test. Old cars from 30 years ago have some great benefits though for example the front of the car is usually made out of a more durable material instead of plastic that could probably be bent in half by a strong. Old cars also can go up in value most of the time depending on how old they are. Overall those are just a couple of things about cars then verses now.

I’m a freshman in high school enrolled in the Ron Paul homeschool curriculum and one of the courses is the personal finance course. In this course I am learning long term financial skills and figuring out what I want to do with my life, which is what my assigned writing topic is this week. I love baking its something I really enjoy doing and I’m pretty good at it. I recently started my own baking business although it is small I have gotten a couple of orders so far and this way I can start saving money for my future. So in saying all of this after I graduate high school I am hoping to get into the Culinary Institute of America at either the Texas or California locations to study baking and pastry arts. I would gain so much experience and learn what it takes to own my bakery. Culinary school is an amazing way for me to learn hard techniques hands on, especially since there is still a lot I need to learn. I also want to learn the business aspect of it, I have some basic knowledge on that stuff but thats about it. Although its a long way away and a big aspiration that isn’t going to stop me from working towards my goal of owning a successful bakery.

Manorialism came to rise during the 9th and 10th century invasions on Western Europe. At this time they were going through countless invasions from the Scandinavian Vikings. These Vikings were relentless and would burn down the villages, kill innocent people, and steal people’s belongings. France got the worst of it and had so many invasions that a prayer was added to the Catholic mass begging God for help from the Vikings. After a while, the people started to look to the king for help, but then realized he could do nothing as well as he really did do nothing. Although people look at kings as this above all person who could do whatever he wanted, in reality kings didn’t have that much power or help. People started to become desperate for protection so they would look to someone who had the money to have a horse and armor with a large amount of land, but these people didn’t have time to take care of the land because they were trying to protect themselves from the Vikings. Since they needed help the men in power of the land which were called Lords would get the helpless people (vassals) and give them protection in exchange of them helping take care of the land. This was a common thing that worked well for both sides giving them both what they needed.

While I am still young buying a car is a big responsibility that I have to face soon, and its good to figure out what I’m looking for now as well as starting to save. My number one priority for every reason I give is to stay within my budget and to save as much money as possible because cars are obviously very expensive. To help me do that I am going to buy a used car and do lots of research. Next one is fuel efficiency which can impact the overall cost greatly and fuel efficient car ends up being more cost effective in the long run. I also want to really like the car I’m buying appearance wise not just because it’s cheaper. If I’m going to be in it all the time I want to enjoy it. Another big thing is reliability and capacity. I want to be able to fit a good amount of people as well as room for luggage, groceries whatever it may be. Finally I need it to be reliable. If it’s breaking down or having problems all the time that can interfere with my life, it can also cost me lots of money in repairs. Overall I am going to do my best in finding a car with all of these qualities when the time comes even though it may be hard.

Charlemagne also known as Charles the Great was born around the year 742. He is remembered as one of the most influential rulers of the Early Middle Ages and earned himself the nickname “Father of Europe”. His reign was a major turning point in Europes history and helped the development of the Holy Roman Empire.

Charlemagne was born into the Carolingian dynasty with his father being Pepin the Short. The Carolingian dynasty was rising in power at the time because the Merovingian dynasty lost it’s influence. Charlemagne and his brother Carloman took over the Frankish kingdom in 768 when there father pasted away leaving them to split it in half. Just 3 years later Carloman unexpectedly pasted away in 771 leaving Charlemagne as the sole ruler of the Franks. For most of his reign he worked on consolidating power in Europe expanding his empire across modern day Austria, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, and France. He gained most of his power through the European military his main wars were The Saxon Wars, The Lombard Campaign, and The Spanish March.

The Saxon Wars lasted over 3 decades against a Germanic tribe because Charlemagne continued to wage wars with them in order to turn them to Christianity. The Lombard Campaign only lasted about a year and consisted of the Franks defeating the Lombards in Italy, becoming king furthering his power over Italy. Now for The Spanish March which lasted about 7 years against the Muslim rulers of Spain, in order to secure the border between him and the Muslim ruled territories.

Although those wars were great achievements his biggest one was when he was crowned Emperor of the Romans by Pope Leo III in 800 on Christmas day. This was very important because the last time there was a Roman Emperor was in 476 right before the fall of The Western Roman Empire. Charlemagne died 14 years later on January 28 at the age of 72 leaving behind a thriving empire that was divided evenly across his 3 grandsons which ended up leading to the slow declining of his empire. Never less he left behind an amazing legacy that will never be forgotten

A few weeks ago I was talking to my gymnastics coach about how I like to bake. He asked me if I would be interested in selling my baked goods and taught me a few ways on how I could sell them, as well as how to price them, things like that. Later that week I started working on flyer that I could give out to people at my gym where all they have to do is fill it out what they wanted and I would have the item a few days later. This flyer has four different types of desserts each coming in multiple different flavors. Each type of dessert has a price next to it and at the bottom there was a spot to put your name and order. So far I have gotten a good amount of customers with them all saying everything was amazing. This business works really well for me since I love to bake and I’m also making money which I can start saving for my future. Overall, I am super thankful to my coach who got me in to selling baked goods and helped me get my business started because without him, I wouldn’t have it.

If you are an OG and have read my previous essays you should know that I have been reading Booker Washington’s autobiography, which I have just finished reading. Booker spent years educating the black community on life skills because he wanted them to overcome their struggles through hard work even once saying:

“…the Negro must not only be taught to read and write, but he must be taught to do something practical, something that will enable him to support himself and his family… He must be taught to be a farmer, a mechanic, a carpenter, a mason, a bricklayer, or a tailor… He must be taught to be a producer, not a consumer.”

He spent many years working at the Tuskegee Institute teaching children important lessons because he wanted to break the pattern and truly loved the difference he was making there. His moral views were centered around optimism, dedication, gradual progress as well as a few other things but his hope for the future was that African Americans would be self-reliant and work toward social acceptance.
