The laser is a device that emits light through a process of optical amplification. Lasers are used in many ways but it’s normally used to amplify a light source and turns it into one powerful light source. The laser was invented in 1960 by Theodore H Maiman. Theodore was an American engineer and physicist. He got over 100 awards and prizes, he made lots of money off his invention and became very successful later on.

Polio Vaccine

The polio vaccine is a vaccine that developed in 1955 to fight off the polio virus. The polio virus was a deadly virus that would affect adults and kids but manly kids. Sometimes when a kid got the polio virus they would become paralyzed. When the polio vaccine was invented and given to kids it would cure the virus and sometimes would allow them to walk again. The polio vaccine saved many lives and allowed more opportunities to open.

The Intermodal Container

The intermodal container is a large standardized shipping container that is designed and built for intermodal transport. One of the best things about the intermodal container is it can be moved from different modes of transport without having to be unloaded. It’s normally used to ship large items such as cars and other items.

The Integrated Circuit

A integrated circuit is a set of electronic circuits on one small, flat chip . It is found in almost every electronic device and also used in sim cards. The inventor is an American physicist named Robert Noyce. Robert not only invented the integrated circuit but he was a very smart kid growing up and became research engineer. Because of his achievements he became a million air in his 30s.

FM Radio

In 1933 the FM radio was invented. It is a method of broadcasting using frequency modulation technology. FM broadcasting has a better quality of sound and broadcasting with less static interruption than AM broadcasting. The chief broadcaster AM radio could not compete with FM radio’s quality and this led to FM being used for most music broadcast. In 1928 Edwin Armstrong started experimenting with frequency modulation. By 1933 after working in his basement in secret he finally discovered wide band FM. He eventually got five patents for his research. FM radio became used worldwide and even used today.

Electron Microscope

An electron microscope is a scientific instrument that examines objects on a very fine scale using a beam of electrons.Electrons have a small wavelength making it easier for a higher magnification than an optical microscope. The scanning electron microscope uses high beams of energy that produces a variety of signals at the surface of specimens. The scanning electron microscope has many different components. The electron gun, lenses, sample chamber, detector, and vacuum chamber.

Nuclear Fission

Nuclear fission is a way to create energy. This process works by atoms splitting apart into smaller atoms. Fission happens with a nuclei breaks apart making two nuclei. When this happens it causes a lot of energy and causes some neutrons to be released from the nucleus. If those neutrons then hit into other atoms making them split this continues to make a nuclear chain reaction. Scientist Leo Szilard hypothesized and attempted a nuclear chain reaction in 1936 but was unsuccessful. By 1938 nuclear chemists Otto Hahn and Fritz Strassmann had discovered nuclear fission.

The Transistor

The transistor is an electrical component that can be used as an amplifier or a switch. A transistor has three connectors. First the collector, where the flow charge goes in, then the charge goes out the emitter and flows to the base. The transistor can be used for many things such as amplifiers for speakers and digital switches for microprocessors. The transistor was the beginning for all modern electronics. It is one of the greatest inventions of the 20th century and without it we wouldn’t have computers, speakers, cell phones or any of the electronics we all like to use.

I have learned a lot but they’re still so much I don’t know but if I could chose it would be about aviation.

I have wanted to learn about aviation since I was 4 years old. I always found it very interesting and after ever flight I would talk to the pilots and ask them questions. I have always wanted to be a pilot because I could travel the world and meet so many people.

Learning to fly is not the only part of aviation I need to learn. Learning all about airplanes and how they work is important too. You have to learn how the planes work and how to control it, since there are many different types of aircrafts. I would like to learn how to fly small biplanes, commercial airplanes, private jets and helicopters. You have to know how each one is different and how the controls are different. Learning all this will also help in an emergency such as an engine dies.

I can’t wait to turn 15 and start learning how to fly and control planes.

Yagi Uda Antenna

The Yagi Uda Antenna is a directional antenna consisting of two or more resonant antenna elements.The antenna was invented by Shintaro Uda and his helper Hidetsuga Yagi in 1926. They were first used a lot in WWII by the British, German, US and Japanese militaries. They were used for communication links both the radio and radar antenna. The current use of the Yagi antenna is found in the terrestrial television antenna. It became known as the Yagi antenna because Uda’s name was left off the original patent.

Penicillin

Penicillin is one of the most common antibiotics. Penicillin was one of the first antibiotics discovered, this was in 1928 by Sir Alexander Fleming. He discovered it by accident when a petri dish with staph bacteria in it got contaminated with mould on it. When he found out about this he began some experiments and then wrote an essay on it. This essay was to show other scientist and medical experts what he found but they didn’t care or have any interest. Finally, when he had help from an another scientist it was made into a medicine and massed produced during WWII. Today it is used as a treatment against syphilis, tonsillitis, meningitis and pneumonia.

George Washington Carver

George Washington Carver was a famous American inventor and botanist. He was born into slavery in Missouri in the 1860s. His owner was a German immigrant and when slavery was abolished his owner Moses Carver raised him as his own. George had a good education that led to his interest in science. He was the first black student to study at the Iowa State Agriculture College. His interest in plants began in his late teens when he had a collection of plants and flowers. Carver started to learn techniques to help improve soil that farmers were using to grow cotton. He started the use of crop rotation with sweet potatoes, legumes like peanuts and other crops which led to richer soil. This became common for farmers and helped with better and more crop production.

Crystal Oscillator

The crystal oscillator is an electronic oscillating device that uses mechanical resonance to create an electrical signal. This is made from a crystal of piezoelectric material. The oscillator is commonly used in keeping track of time like in watches and clocks. It is also useful in stabilizing frequencies in radio transmissions. They were developed in the 1920s-1930s for their stability. Alexander M Nicholson invented the first crystal oscillator in 1918 from a crystal of Rochelle salt. By 1921 the first quartz crystal oscillator was made. This led to the need for mass production of quartz crystal during WWII. These were needed for use in military and naval radios and radar.

The Airplane

The airplane is a type of aircraft that is propelled forward by the thrust from a jet engine. The Wright brothers,Wilbur and Orville were always doubted because they only new how to make bikes because they owned there own bike shop. They never gave because when they were kids their dad explained them what the helicopter was so they new they are destain to fly.

Safety Razor

The safety razor is a type of razor that has a protective device placed between the blade and the skin. The safety razor was invented in the 1900s and was directed towards men in the military . Safety razors were not always like the way they are now, they used to be called the guard razor and had a very different design.

The Vacuum Tube

The vacuum tube is an electron tube that controls electric flow in a vacuum. The vacuum tube was invented in 1904 by John Ambrose Fleming. John was an electrical engineer and physicist and lived almost to 100. Not only did he invent the vacuum tube he also designed the radio, established the right hand rule and many other things.

The Model T

The model t is a rear wheel vehicle with their gear type billed as three speed but now in modern terms would be two speed. The model t was first produced in 1908 has grown very far since then. The inventor is Henry Ford and the model t can also be called the ford model t.

Where I live the city isn’t too big but there are some cool and interesting buildings.

There are so many cool buildings in my city but the coolest one would probably be this brick building with two smoke towers called the smoke pit. That may seam a little boring but there is actually more to it. There is a small Mexican restaurant inside of it and there is also a little alleyway that leads you to the lower half of the building which has a bar and an Italian restaurant. A other cool thing is there is a park across the street so you can go relax and have fun with friends.

This is a great place to hang out at on the weekend and is a great place to go with your family.

The Radio

The radio is a device that uses radio waves to signal and communicate with other people. Guglielmo Marconi is the inventor of the radio and the reason why is because he wanted an easy way to communicate. The radio is not commonly used today because of new technology.

The Mousetrap

A mousetrap is a specialized type of animal trap that is designed to catch or kill a mouse. Mousetraps where pretty helpful because if someone had a mouse in their house a mousetrap could help catch the mouse. They were also helpful when renovating an old restaurant or building.

Deisel Engine

The diesel engine is an internal combustion engine that uses air fuel to rotate. When the diesel engine was invented it was very popular cause it was way faster then the engines that most cars had at he time. The diesel engine has improved since then and is still used today.

The Semi-Automatic Shotgun

The semi-auto gun is a self loading fully automatic gun. They are still used today but are normally called self loading firearm. When it was invented it was one of the best the guns because it was one of the first fully auto guns.

The Zipper

The zipper is an object that is used to bind the edges of a piece of fabric or an other flexible material. Whitcomb L. Judson was tired of having to button up clothes and shoes all the time. So he invented the zipper to make things easy and fast

The Ballpoint Pen

A ballpoint pen is a pen that dispenses ink over a metal ball at its point. The ballpoint pen was a lot better than most pens because the ink inside of the tube would not leak out of the pen and go every where. The ballpoint pen was directed to artist and writers.

Coca-Cola

Coca-cola or coke is a carbonated soft drink manufactured by the coca-cola company. Coca-Cola originated in 1886 by an Atlanta pharmacist, named John S. Pemberton. When coca-cola was invented it was made to be a medicine not a soda.

Induction Motor

The induction motor is an AC electric current that is powered by electromagnetic waves. The induction motor is really important because it’s how most AC’s are powered. The induction motor was invented in 1824 in Paris and has come pretty far since then.

The best advice I have ever gotten is probably if you really want something you have to work for it.

The reason why is I do gymnastics and if I want to continue moving up and getting better I have to work hard and push myself. If I really want to become an olympic gymnast I have to not only train at the gym but also at home.

Thats why that is the best advice I have ever gotten before.

The dishwasher is automatic machine used to clean dishware. Dishwashers can come in many different types verse when they were first invented there was only one type. The dishwasher was invented in 1850 by Joel Houghton. It was a wooden box with spinning wheel to clean the dishes.

The skyscraper is a tall building that goes up in the clouds with multiple floors. When skyscrapers were made people would hand pant then because they didn’t have the machines we have now. It was one of the most dangerous jobs because it was so easy to fall off one of the pillars or other parts.

The light switch is an electric switch normally used to control electric lights. The light switch makes things easy and simply. It is in most peoples homes and can come in many different ways. The light switch was invented by John Henry Holmes who also invented the light bulb.

Electromagnetic Waves

Electromagnetic waves are radiation waves that are traveling through space. A fun thing to know is radio waves do bring heat to make a microwave run. You can even detect these waves by using a rod.
