American Robins

American Robins are a symbol of spring. They lay there eggs in April or May. When baby’s hatch they have no feathers, but they grow their feathers ten days later. American Robins have a life span of two years. American Robins eat insects like worms, beetles, and others. They look around in grass, then they rip their prey out of the ground. You can look for American Robins in your back yard.

Impact of small inventions

Small inventions have had a big impact on culture over time. Some of these inventions are the wheelbarrow, soap, stirrups, and the heavy plough. I am going to talk about a few.

Wheelbarrows

Before wheelbarrows it was very hard to move heavy loads. People would have to get as much of the material as they could carry and come back for more. The wheelbarrow solved this problem by carrying large loads all at once. It was much safer and better for the community because if stuff was sitting on the grass, it would die.

Soap

Before soap people would use oil and scrape it off with a metal tool. Soap thankfully, solved that problem. Now we just apply soap and wash it off with clean water. This helped fix diseases because soap cleans off bacteria and people didn’t get sick as much. This made food cleaner and safer.

Heavy Plough

The heavy plough is a farming tool. Before the invention of the heavy plough we would use the hoe to farm and that took all day. The heavy plough made that much easier because it was faster and less difficult to break up the ground. It benefited people because it had great food output, increasing population and village growth.

Stirrups

Stirrups are where you put your feet when you ride a horse. It allows the rider to have more control over the horse. Before stirrups they put their feet in the bottom of the horses saddle. Stirrups made it easier for travel because your feet would be tucked into something and not all over the place.

Small inventions can have a big impact on history. The smallest inventions can be very life changing, for example the inventions I talked about are very important to the way we live today.

Birds That Live In My Neighborhood

I live in a neighborhood like most people and there are many birds here. Birds live in many different habitats, my neighborhood is a forest habitat. The birds that live in a forest habitat are the Bare necked Umbrella, Rufous headed Horbill and so many others. There are many different habitats like aquatic, scrub shrub. I hope you enjoyed my article.

The Differences Between China and Europe With The Invention Of The Compass

In Europe the compass had a different effect than China. In China the use of the compass was different then Europe because the cultures were different. A compass is basically a magnetized needle balanced on a post. The earths magnetic field exerts a moving force on the needle. Before the compass it was hard to sail and they on landmarks. In the winter sailing was practically impossible. The Europeans begin using it differently than the Chinese because they used it for sailing and navigation. This made sailing across the ocean easier which promoted international commerce.

The Chinese invented the compass more than 2,000 years ago. The Chinese believed in Chi or universal life force, and finding due north was important for maximizing Chi. That is how the Chinese started using the compass for feng shui. They used it not for sailing, like the Europeans but for choosing places to build houses and grow crops. The spread and changes of the compass that we still use today.

Tarantulas Eeeeeeek !

There are 900 species of tarantulas. Tarantulas can be many different sizes some, can be as big as your plate, and some can be as small as your fingernail. The word tarantulas comes from the Italian word taraton. Tarantulas might be scary but they are really fascinating.

THE BLACK WIDOW

When most people think of a black widow spider they think they are all black with a red hour-glass on the bottom side of their abdomen, but that’s not true. There are many different types of black widows. There are 32 types of species in this family. The Redback spider has a red stripe on the top. The males tend to be smaller and lighter in color than the females. The Northern Widow spider has red and white marks on it. Finally the European Black Widow has 13 red, orange, or yellow spots on it. Their toxic bite can kill insects, animals but rarely humans. Black widow spiders can be dangerous and scary but don’t always look like it.

Spiders Ahhhhhh!

Spiders are arthropods that means they have a strong exo-skeleton. Spiders only have two body segments insects have three body parts. There are 43,000 thousand spider species. Spiders have little hairs on their feet that allows them to walk upside down on a ceiling. Spiders might be scary but they are actually really cool.

Simple Machines

Simple Machines are a mechanical device that changes the direction or magnitude of a force. Some examples are the wedge, wheel and axle, and the inclined plane. I use simple machines in my every day life.

Wedge

Wedges are another simple machine. I use a wedge when I use a knife. I use a knife to cut food and open packages. Knifes are wedges because they cut or split.

Wheel and Axle

Another simple machine is the wheel and axle an example is a door knob, when you turn the door knob you turn the shaft it is connected to another wheel and then you open the door.

Inclined Plane

The last simple machine that I am going to talk about is the inclined plane. An example is a slide, gravity is the force so you can slide down.

These are just some of the simple machines I utilize. There are many more that people don’t realize such as the lever, pulley, and the screw.

My Favorite Place To Go

My favorite place to go is New York. I love New York because I have so many relatives that live there and I have done so many other fun things in New York. One of things I have done there is, I went on a ferry ride. A ferry ride is when you take a big boat from one place to another. I’ve been to many different boroughs in New York like, Queens, Staten Island, and Manhattan. In Manhattan I have been to The National History Museum, The Statue of Liberty, and Times Square. These are just some of the things and places that I have seen that make me love New York. Hopefully the next time I go I will see a Broadway show.

Dragonflies

Dragonflies are not true flies because they have four wings. They are classified as Odonata. Dragonflies are made of many different body parts, up to 30 body parts. There are about 3,000 species of dragonflies. Dragonflies are found all over the world but the Common Green Darner is found in North America where we live. I think the damselfly is the prettiest but technically they are not a dragonfly.
